Jonathan Lambert-Melton is an at-large member of the Raleigh City Council. First elected in 2019, he is the first openly LGBTQ+ person to be elected citywide in the city. Since 2022, he has served as the city's Mayor Pro Tem.[1]

Biography

Melton moved to Raleigh in 2004 to attend North Carolina State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in 2008. He subsequently attended the North Carolina Central University School of Law, graduating with a Juris Doctor in 2011.[2]

Melton is a North Carolina Board Certified Specialist in family law. He is a partner at the law firm Gailor Hunt Davis Taylor & Gibbs, PLLC, where he has practiced exclusively in family law since 2011.[3]

Raleigh City Council

Melton was first elected to an at-large seat on the City Council in 2019, campaigning on a platform of "responsible, equitable growth" and expanded public transit.[2]

In 2022, following his re-election, Melton was selected by the council to serve as **Mayor Pro Temp**. He was re-elected to his seat again in 2024, finishing second in a large field of at-large candidates.[4]
